City of Taylor recently issued the following announcement.

The Taylor Sportsplex is hosting its first “LAN Party Extravaganza” on Saturday, August 31. If you’ve got video game savvy, this might be right up your alley.

A LAN (local area network) party or gathering is where people get together and connect a series of computers to one another to play games on them simultaneously. LAN parties have been the heart and soul of the gaming culture for years. They are a great way to meet fellow gamers, compete in tournaments and share your passion for the sport.

Competition, sponsored by WOW Cable, will take place in the following tournaments: 3v3 Rocket League and 3v3 Apex Legends; Fortnite Solos; Overwatch 6v6; and Hearthstone. For specific rules and guidelines, see the gaming packet.

At stake in each tournament will be prizes of gaming headsets.

Entry is $30 per seat (all ages). Doors will open at 8 a.m. with registration at 9. You can register online here. Walk up registration will be available on Saturday morning. However, participants must register online and on smash.gg.txslan for the Hearthstone competition.

Participants should bring their own computer or console with necessary cables; monitor (nothing over 27 inches); and headset, mouse, keyboard, mousepad and controller. Chairs will be provided, but participants can bring their own.

Call (734) 374-8900 Ext. 1 for more information.
