The Dearborn Heights Parks and Recreation Department announced on Mar. 23 that it will host a group trip to Mackinac Island from September 1 to September 4, 2026. The event features a three-night stay at the Grand Hotel and is open to residents seeking a getaway.

The trip offers an all-inclusive package, which includes roundtrip motorcoach transportation, ferry tickets, and a horse-drawn taxi ride upon arrival. This mode of transport highlights the island’s historic car-free environment. Guests will stay at the Grand Hotel for three nights with daily breakfast, five-course dinners, and a buffet lunch on arrival.

Participants can enjoy various activities such as a horse-drawn carriage tour of the island, evening dancing accompanied by the Grand Hotel Orchestra, self-guided walks, bocce ball games, golf putting sessions, afternoon tea with cookies, and a special champagne reception. Additional offerings include educational lectures about the hotel’s history as well as entertainment like movies, bingo games, and writing contests.

Pricing for the trip varies based on room occupancy: $1,610 per person for single occupancy; $1,300 per person for double occupancy; and $1,195 per person for triple occupancy. Officials said that some triple rooms may have two double beds plus a rollaway bed due to space limitations. A deposit of $450 is required by May 1 to reserve a spot in the program with final payment due by July 1.
