George Day named GLIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for second time this season

George Day of the Wayne State University men’s tennis team was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, according to an April 14 announcement by the league office.

The recognition highlights Day’s performance in helping Wayne State secure two victories over the weekend. The Warriors defeated Purdue University Northwest with a score of 6-1 and then swept Roosevelt University 7-0. In doubles play against Purdue Northwest, Day and his partner Thomas Mathys won 6-2, while Day also secured a singles victory at the top flight with scores of 6-1, 6-2. Against Roosevelt, he contributed another doubles win (6-3) and claimed a singles match at No. 1 with scores of 6-1, 6-1.

Wayne State Warriors Men’s Tennis is part of Wayne State University’s intercollegiate athletics program, according to the official website. The team participates in NCAA Division II and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference according to its official website.

Day has now earned three career GLIAC weekly honors. He and his teammates are scheduled to compete next at Grand Valley State University on Friday, April 17.
