Wayne State University women’s basketball guard McKenna Ferguson has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, according to an announcement from the league office.
Ferguson earned the recognition after scoring 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting and making 7-of-10 free throws, along with two assists, in Wayne State’s 84-63 victory over No. 12-ranked Northern Michigan University last Thursday. She also contributed four rebounds and a steal in that game. In a subsequent matchup against Michigan Tech University, Ferguson led all scorers with 19 points (6-of-16 FG, 2-of-7 from three-point range, and 5-of-6 FT), adding three steals and six rebounds as Wayne State edged out a 68-67 win.
During the first quarter of the contest against Michigan Tech, Ferguson made a three-pointer to become only the 21st player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points.
The Wayne State Warriors women’s basketball team will travel to Chicago to face GLIAC opponent Roosevelt on Thursday, February 19.
Wayne State Warriors Women’s Basketball competes at the NCAA Division II level as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The team is based in Detroit, Michigan and has secured several NCAA Tournament appearances as well as GLIAC division titles such as those won in the North Division during the 2012-13 season and South Division in 2014-15.
