Huron County is home to approximately 32,000 residents, and learning how to best serve them is an ongoing process for Commissioner Steve Vaughan. He has gotten a pretty good handle on how to do that after serving on the seven-member board for the last 10 years.

Vaughan oversees all county property in his role as properties committee chair. The board’s role is to work together to support the political will of residents, meet the community's needs and ensure the county’s bills are paid.

There are always some residents who don’t support those decisions, though. Vaughan said that if you have to make a sacrifice to get something done, you should make it as small as possible, according to the Huron Daily Tribune.

Vaughan was Meade Township supervisor for 12 years before winning a seat on the board.

Most people don’t realize the job of county commissioner is 24 hour a day, seven days a week, Vaughan told the Huron Daily Tribune. But this came as no surprise to him, as he had worked at the county and township levels for 24 years.

Vaughan said the most memorable aspect of serving as a commissioner is seeing the smiles on the faces of residents when they leave the county's facility with the outcome they wanted.
