Michigan Business issued the following announcement on April 9.
The Community Engagement Advisory Committee for Benton Harbor Area Schools is reminding community members to provide their comments about the draft academic and financial operating plan for the school district.
The draft academic and financial operating plan, video and presentation are all available at www.michigan.gov/engagecomm. Individuals can share their comments and ask questions about the draft academic and financial operating plan by emailing engagecomm@michigan.gov.
“This is an opportunity for Benton Harbor community members to provide their feedback about our draft academic and financial operating plan,” said Deputy State Treasurer Joyce Parker, who chairs the Community Engagement Advisory Committee for Benton Harbor Area Schools. “It’s important to the development of the plan that we hear from community members.”
All comments about the draft academic and financial plan must be received by noon on April 13, 2020.
On April 7, the Benton Harbor Area Schools Community Engagement Advisory Committee held a joint meeting with the Benton Harbor Board of Education to present the draft academic and financial operating plan. Throughout the next month, the plan will undergo further review and approval among the Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education, Michigan Department of Education and Michigan Department of Treasury.
Under a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2019, the committee has been engaging with community members to evaluate academic programs, district finances, capital needs and other issues as members work openly and transparently to develop an assessment and operating plan for the school district.
