State Rep. Isaac Robinson (D-Detroit) died on March 29 of suspected COVID-19, according to his Wikipedia page. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced April 10 that there would be a primary election held on August 4 to fill the position. On November 3, there will be a general election.
Those who would like to run for the office needed to file by April 21. This official letter from Gov. Whitmer, filed by the Secretary of State, contains more information on the upcoming election.
According to Patch Detroit, Gov. Whitmer released a statement: "Rep. Isaac Robinson had a huge heart, a quick wit and a genuine passion for the people."
"He was a fierce advocate for Detroiters and people across Southeast Michigan. He dedicated his career to ensuring justice and security for those he served, and the impact he had on his community will continue to be felt for years to come. Voters will have an opportunity to make their voices heard at the ballot box in the August 4 primary and the November 3 general election."
