The Michigan GOP pointed out Democratic U.S. Senator Gary Peters' unsuccessful track record, with only 1.9% of his bills becoming law.
In a July 22 press release from the Michigan Republicans website, Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Laura Cox said that Peters' legislative record is ineffective, "despite personally enriching himself during his time as a U.S. Senator."
The website stated that, at a crucial time when Michigan small business owners needed support from their representatives in Washington, Peters "didn't bother to show up" and has failed to create successful working relationships with his colleagues from both parties in Congress.

The Michigan GOP reported that Peters did not attend 89% of China accountability hearings and 84% of the Small Business Committee hearings.
“Gary Peters can try and give Michiganders all the election-year lip service he wants, but the truth of the matter is that he doesn’t even show up to work,” said Cox on MiGOP.org. The Michigan Republican Party stated that, despite Peters' apparent lack of success in Washington, he has made a significant profit while in Congress.
“While Michiganders are working hard to pay their bills and make ends meet, Peters is personally enriching himself with taxpayer dollars. November cannot come fast enough so that our state can have new leadership in the U.S. Senate," Cox added.
The Washington Free Beacon found Peters to have voted against pay raises for military members six times over one year.
"Both in 2015 and 2016, Peters voted three times to block Defense Department funding bills that would have raised service members' pay by 2.3% and 2.1%, respectively," reads the Michigan Republicans website. The statement directly contradicts a quote from Peters claiming that says he has "never voted against a pay raise for service members."
"While Gary Peters personally enriches himself as a U.S. Senator -- collecting multiple taxpayer-funded paychecks -- he continues to play politics with veterans funding," said Cox on MiGOP.org. "John James [Peters' opponent] has served our country in combat and knows the importance of supporting our military and veterans. He will always stand up for them in the U.S. Senate."
