Charter County of Wayne Michigan issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.
Wayne County Commission adopts balanced $1.66 billion for 2020-21
Wayne County Commissioners today (Sept. 30) unanimously adopted a balanced $1.66 billion county operating budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year – the first county budget impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new budget is roughly equal to the previous year’s budget, which expired Sept. 30, though county officials acknowledged adjustments may need to be made as the full impact of the pandemic and a recent Michigan Supreme Court ruling involving tax revenue from foreclosed properties take hold. County officials also acknowledged that further adjustments may also need to be made depending on the availability of additional federal funding.
“We did the very best job we could in budgeting for these uncertain times,” Commission Chair Alisha Bell (D-Detroit) said. “Throughout the budgeting process, we made it a priority to ensure that the kinds of programs and services our residents expect would continue.
