In an October 14 post on the Michigan Republicans website, the state GOP said that Democratic U.S. Sen. Gary Peters is "flooding his campaigns and wallet" with substantial amounts of drug company dollars.

While the senator talks frequently about America's health care system, he has been accepting thousands of dollars' worth of donations from pharmaceutical companies, all the while stating on television that he is fighting them, according to Michigan Republicans.

Peters' political committees have reportedly accepted $194,000 from drug company and employee Political Action Committees (PACs) since joining the Legislature.

Michigan Republicans also claim that the senator's personal wealth has doubled since his first day in Washington.

".. and he did it in part with his plan to bet big on drug companies profiting off patients," say the Michigan Republicans.

According to the GOP, Peters' personal income from his holdings in major drug companies include: Abbott Laboratories, AbbVie, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Merck, Pfizer and Teva Pharmaceuticals.

“Gary Peters has not been successful at much in Washington. But with The Peters Plan, Gary got ahead with the help of drug companies and generated healthy profits for himself,” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. “It’s no wonder voters have been left this year to wonder what it is Peters did for them.”
