City of Taylor issued the following announcement on Nov. 2.
Based on unofficial General Election results, Tim Woolley will be the new mayor of the City of Taylor. The current City Council chairman defeated State Rep. Alex Garza and incumbent Mayor Rick Sollars, who was running a write-in campaign.
Chairman Woolley unofficially took 50.72 percent of the votes, with 5,556. Garza, who had won the primary handily, finished with 40.86 percent (4,434 votes). Write-ins (915) totaled just 8.43 percent of the voters.
Mayor-elect Woolley, when the results are certified and he is sworn into office, will become the eighth man to serve as mayor of Taylor. Others to serve were Richard Trolley, S. Richard Marshall, Donald Zub, Cameron (Kim) Priebe (twice), Gregory Pitoniak, Jeffrey Lamarand and Sollars. Current Mayor Sollars is finishing his second, four-year term in office.
The bond proposal for the Taylor School District passed by a margin of 5,398-4,353, approximately 55-45 percent. The bond will build a new high school and career center on the old Kennedy High School site, along with offering massive building, technology and security improvements across the school system. District voters had not passed a major building bond since the late 1960s.
The new City Council elected today (in order) is Doug Geiss (4,867), Jill Brandana (4,505), Angie Winton (4,399), Butch Ramik (4,247), Charley Johnson (4,178), Lindsey Rose (4,059) and Ira Slaven (3,883). The top seven vote-getters of the 14-person field are seated as the new City Council.
Candidates who did not make the final cut were (in descending order) Tina Daniels (3,807), Amy Atwood (3,804), Justin Mordarski (3,716), Asha Tyson (3,514), Christy Masters Carmona (2,929), Nick Dmitruchina (2,925) and Chris Verdun (2,292).
The election's top overall vote-getter was Clerk Cindy Bower, running unopposed, who received approximately 99 percent of the vote (7,980). Treasurer Michelle Tocco, also unopposed, received 7,680 votes, or 98 percent.
All terms are for four years.
Only 11,001 of 48,004 registered voters cast ballots today. AV ballots made up 5,980 of the total vote.
