Riverview Councilmember-Elect Charged in Non-Fatal Crash

Lawyer

County of Wayne issued the following announcement on Nov. 17.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged David Robbins, 34, (DOB: 08/20/1987), of Riverview, in connection with a non-fatal car crash. The incident happened several hours after Mr. Robbins was newly elected to the Riverview City Council.

On November 4, 2021 at approximately 1:38 a.m., it is alleged that Defendant Robbins was intoxicated and driving at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a tree in the median of Fort Street near Voight Avenue in Riverview and left the scene on foot.

David Robbins has been charged with one count of Operating While Intoxicated, one count of Reckless Driving, and one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident. *

"A dangerous event was put in motion by the defendant's alleged actions leading to these criminal charges. It's shocking and disappointing that this happened less than 24 hours after he was elected to the Riverview City Council," said Prosecutor Worthy.

He was arraigned on November 17, 2021 in 27th District Court and received a $5,000/10% bond with an alcohol tether. His Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 24, 2021 at 1:15 p.m.

A photograph of the defendant is being sent in a separate email.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
