The annual Heritage Park Cleanup Day has been scheduled for Saturday, April 23. It will begin at 9 a.m. and run for two hours.
This will be the seventh annual cleanup day in Heritage Park. During two recent springs, the cleanup day was cancelled, once do to the COVID-19 pandemic, the other because of heavy flooding in the park.
Due to prevailing winds during the winter months, the usual areas of the park are lined with debris: treeline on the east side of the park; along the northern fence line; and down the connector pathway between the park and Wayne County Community College.
Anyone who enjoys Heritage Park is welcome to attend and participate. That includes individuals, civic and school organizations and even business groups. There will be certificates for those seeking community service hours.
The cleanup as attracted as many as nearly 275 volunteers during a given spring cleanup. Many people come from all over Downriver.
If you are planning on participating, please meet in the Pardee Road parking lot (in front of the Sheridan Center Open Air Pavilion) at 9 a.m. Jim Taylor, the founder of the event, will address the volunteers as a group and make various assignments.
Dress appropriately. Heavy boots are recommended and gloves are a must. The City will provide buckets and bags for the trash pickup, and will have a limited among of "pickers" or "grabbers."
