Dr. Equilla Bradford was a trailblazer in the field of public education, spending her entire career in the Westwood Community School District. The Wayne
State University graduate started as a teacher at McNair Elementary School and later became its principal. In 1979, Dr. Bradford was appointed
superintendent of schools - the first Black woman in Michigan to hold such a position. In 1984, she was honored for her dedication to education by the
Congressional Black Caucus Education Braintrust.Known affectionately as "Dr. B" or "Quill," Dr. Bradford was also the first female president of The Rotary
Club of Dearborn Heights, which celebrates its 59th year today. Westwood's headquarters building on Beech Daly is named in her honor. The
Birmingham, Alabama, native died in 2005. #BlackHistoryMonth
