Wayne State women's swimming/diving team ties school record with academic honors

DETROIT -- The 2023-24 Wayne State University women's swimming and diving program equaled a school record with 20 GLIAC All-Academic recipients. Additionally, the Warriors surpassed the previous all-time mark of 16 All-Academic Excellence honorees, achieving 18 selections. Over the last five seasons, the program has had 89 Academic All-GLIAC honorees.

The criteria for selection require that student-athletes be active members on the roster at the end of the season and not be freshmen or first-year transfer students.

Named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 were graduate student Jordan Fox (Melbourne, Australia), redshirt senior Marissa Woida (Lincoln Park, Mich. / Wyandotte Roosevelt), seniors Justine Czyrka (Northville, Mich.), Hannah Gurecki (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North), Peyton Michalski (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland), Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia), Isidora Sekaric (Windsor, Ont. / W.F. Herman Academy), Mikaela Senkus (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies [Eisenhower]), Megan Sieloff (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Juliana Witt (Macomb Twp., Mich. / Macomb Dakota); juniors Sabine Branford (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem), Evie Dice (Waterford, Mich. / Clarkston) and Alli Vassilakos (Clarkston, Mich.), along with sophomores Elly Belmore (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview), Megan Delaere (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester), Rose Haney (Fenton, Mich.), Hasten Horling (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Northview) and Diana Muccioli (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North).

Fox (master's in Accounting - 4.00) and Woida (Nursing - 3.88) garnered their fourth straight All-Academic Excellence Team recognition while Czyrka (Marketing - 3.80), Gurecki (Sociology - 3.86), Michalski (Psychology - 3.67), Munoz (Management - 3.71), Sekaric (Chemistry - 3.94), Senkus (Civil Engineering - 3.92), Sieloff (Exercise and Sport Science - 3.63) and Witt (Environmental Science - 3.72) notched their third consecutive All-Academic Excellence honor.

Branford (Mechanical Engineering - 3.69) and Dice (Exercise and Sport Science - 3.90) each collected their second straight All-Academic Excellence Team award while Belmore (Exercise & Sport Science - 3.90), Delaere (Psychology - 3.90), Haney (Political Science - 3.75), Horling (Marketing - 3.84), Muccioli (Design - 3.84) and Vassilakos (Management - 3.71) are recipients in their first season eligible.

Wayne State had two representatives on the All-Academic Team for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49: juniors Julia Katulski (Novi, Mich.) and Hailee Waters (Dexter, Mich.).

Katulski (Marketing - 3​.19​) was honored for the second straight year while Waters ​(Exercise & Sport Science​) was a first-year recipient.
