Wayne State athletes earn CSC academic all-district honors

DETROIT -- Five members of the Wayne State University women's cross country and track & field team were recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors, as announced by the organization earlier today.

The nomination criteria for this honor include that student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. They must also maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale. Eligible nominees are based on TFRRS performance list rankings at the time of nomination, with only individual top 50 performances considered for eligibility.

The honorees from Wayne State University are sophomore Hanne Bastiaansen (Tessenderlo, Belgium), redshirt senior Thailyia Christensen (Flushing, Mich.), junior Reagan Justice (Canton, Mich. / Salem), redshirt senior Mikayla Williams (St. Charles, Mich.), and sophomore Avery Wilson (Davison, Mich.).

Bastiaansen ranked tied-for-29th in the Midwest Region in the 200m dash for Indoors and achieved several top rankings in Outdoors events including sixth in the 200m dash and tied-for-20th in the 100m dash. Academically, she holds a cumulative GPA of 3.82 and has consistently been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Christensen was ranked in multiple events both Indoors and Outdoors, including finishing second in the Midwest Region steeplechase for Outdoors. She graduated last month with a degree in marketing and a cumulative GPA of 3.889.

Justice earned regional rankings in various events both Indoors and Outdoors, including NCAA Provisional times. She has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for three semesters and is an Early & Elementary Education major.

Williams had significant regional rankings across several events Indoors and Outdoors throughout her collegiate career. She graduated with a Management degree last month maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.837.

Wilson achieved an NCAA Provisional time indoors for the 400m and held regional rankings outdoors as well. A Nutrition and Food Science major, she has maintained perfect term GPAs throughout her four semesters at Wayne State University.
