Wayne State University honors five women's tennis players for academic excellence

Five members of the Wayne State University women's tennis team have received Academic All-GLIAC recognition, with four named to the All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. The women's tennis program has produced 32 Academic All-GLIAC honorees over the past six years.

According to the criteria, student-athletes must be active roster members at the end of the season and not be freshmen or first-year transfer students.

The following athletes were selected for the All-Academic Excellence Team:

- Malak Arafat, Sophomore from Alexandria, Egypt/Lycée Français d'Alexandrie, majoring in Electrical Engineering with a GPA of 3.54 (first-year eligible)

- Anais Ruyssen, Redshirt Junior from Nantes, France/Enfants-Nantais, majoring in Management with a GPA of 3.78 (second consecutive year on Excellence Team after transferring to WSU)

- Martyna Szpakowska, Sophomore from Gdansk, Poland/Sopocka Tennis Academy, majoring in Psychology with a GPA of 3.88 (first-year eligible)

- Shanice Weekes, Sophomore from London, England/Fortismere S.S., majoring in World Languages, Literatures and Cultures with a GPA of 3.88 (first-year eligible)

Additionally, Marta Komar was selected for the All-Academic Team:

- Marta Komar, Redshirt Junior from Inowroclaw, Poland/Sopocka Tennis Academy, majoring in Psychology with a GPA of 3.44

The Wayne State University Department of Athletics concluded the 2023-24 academic year with 253 GLIAC All-Academic honorees, one shy of the school record set during the 2022-23 academic year.
