Wayne State men's tennis players honored with GLIAC academic excellence

Six student-athletes on the 2023-24 Wayne State University men's tennis squad garnered GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honors. The six Excellence Team selections (cumulative GPA of 3.5+) were the most of any conference school. The men's tennis team has had 51 GLIAC All-Academic honorees over the last eight years.

Criteria state the student-athlete must be an active member on the roster at the end of the season, and not a freshman or a first-year transfer student.

All-Academic Excellence Team Selections:

- Cedric Drenth, Jr., Sulzbach, Germany/Altkönigschule Kronberg, Finance, 3.97 (received All-Academic Excellence recognition for the second consecutive year)

- Daniel Grey, Sr., Wiesbaden, Germany/Gutenberg, Neuroscience Honors, 3.93 (received All-Academic Excellence recognition for the third consecutive year)

- Luke Laws, Gr., Sunderland, England/Southmoor Academy, Applied Mathematics, 3.55 (received All-Academic Excellence recognition for the fourth consecutive year)

- Emil Mikkelsen, Sr., Soenderborg, Denmark/Soenderborg Statsskole, Sport Management, 3.94 (first-year eligible after transferring to WSU in fall of 2022)

- Dom Spicer, Gr., London, England/Soto Tennis Academy, MBA, 3.58 (received All-Academic Excellence recognition for the fourth consecutive year)

- Joe Steele, Sr., Beverly Hills, Mich./University of Detroit Jesuit, Finance, 3.88 (received All-Academic Excellence recognition for the third consecutive year)

The Wayne State University Department of Athletics concluded the 2023-24 academic year with 253 GLIAC All-Academic honorees—one shy of the school record set during the 2022-23 academic year.
