DETROIT -- Over the next six weeks, we will be previewing each position on the 2024 Wayne State University football team with each position coach highlighting their respective units. This segment is the running backs preview with head coach Tyrone Wheatley.

Last year's top two rushers in Kendall Williams (538 yards) and Jayden Waddell (263) are gone, as are the No. 4 and No. 5 rushers in Eli McLean and Te'Avion Warren with 157 and 153 yards, respectively.

The lone back returning that gained over 100 yards last year is redshirt junior D'Marco Singleton, who rushed for 213 yards and one score.

Also in the mix for carries is redshirt senior Jeremiah Sterling, who averaged 4.2 yards per carry a season ago, along with three others who made their collegiate debuts in 2023. Dahmir Farnum played in four games and had 10 carries for 39 yards, while Brayden McKenna had a rushing touchdown at Northern Michigan. XaVior Tyus totaled 13 rushing attempts last year in three games.

The four newcomers in the backfield are freshmen Damien Brockington (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian), Branden Harris (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview), Mickey Keller (Ashburn, Va. / Independence) and Camren Warburton (Lackawanna, N.Y. / Cheektowaga H.S. / Palmetto Prep - Columbia, S.C.).
