Wayne State University redshirt senior offensive lineman Charles Wesley has been announced as a nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team. Wesley, hailing from Clinton, Michigan, is the sole representative from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and one of six nominees from Michigan universities.

Wesley has participated in various community service activities. He assisted with Boxes of Love, organizing and delivering turkeys to families during Thanksgiving. At Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries Soup Kitchen, he organized food and cleaned the pantry. Additionally, he made sandwiches at the Salvation Army and volunteered at his local church.

Academically, Wesley has been recognized on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll six times and the Coach's Honor Roll twice. He maintains a 3.557 cumulative GPA in the Exercise and Sport Science program after completing 115 hours of coursework.

Wesley's athletic achievements include being named to the GLIAC All-Academic team in 2021 and 2022, and to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team in 2023. After missing two seasons due to COVID-19 and illness, he played all 10 games in 2022, starting seven times at left guard. In 2023, he was selected for the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team and named his team's Offensive Most Valuable Player.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 to recognize college football athletes for their community service efforts. This year's nominees support causes such as mental health awareness, youth mentorship, hunger relief, and domestic abuse prevention. To be considered for the team, players must also maintain strong academic standings.

Tim Tebow praised this year's nominees: "You'll never regret making someone else's life better," said Tebow. "Year after year, I'm inspired by these incredible nominees who go above and beyond to help others."

The final roster of 23 award recipients will be announced later in September. It will include players from various NCAA divisions and one honorary head coach. Selection is done by a voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members, current and former head coaches, and journalists.

Fans can engage with #GoodWorksTeam on social media throughout the season.

The Southeastern Conference leads all conferences with 84 selections since the award's inception in 1992. Georgia tops individual schools with 23 honorees.

The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), founded in 1922 with over 11,000 members globally, governs this award among other initiatives aimed at maintaining high standards within football coaching.
