The Wayne State University women's golf team concluded its first tournament of the 2024-25 season on Tuesday afternoon at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, Indiana. The Warriors secured eighth place out of 16 teams at Missouri-St. Louis' Midwest Ladies Collegiate with a three-round score of 940 (+76, 317-322-301).

"This was a really good start to the season for us," said head coach Larry Hamilton. "We played a lot of stretches of solid golf and on day two, everyone started finding a better groove. I have to say that having Ting-Yu and Claudia finish 9th and 12th, respectively, in their first collegiate tournament was outstanding."

Individually, Wayne State was led by two top-12 performers competing in their first collegiate tournament: Ting-Yu Kuo from Taipei, Taiwan, and Claudia Portillo from Madrid, Spain. Kuo moved up four spots in round three to tie for ninth with a score of 223 (+7, 72-79-72), while Portillo ascended nine slots on Tuesday to tie for twelfth with a score of 226 (+10, 77-77-72).

Sophia Wygonik from Westland, Michigan showed significant improvement on day two, advancing twelve places from round two to round three. Wygonik tied for sixty-first with a score of 250 (+34, 84-89-77). Orianna Bylsma from Montague, Michigan rounded out the scoring for Wayne State by tying for sixty-sixth with a score of 252 (+36, 84-84-84).

Sabel Imesch from Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan tied for seventieth with a score of 253 (+37, 91-82-80).

Next on the schedule for the Warriors is Ohio Dominican's Champions of Women's Golf Classic on Monday-Tuesday, September 16-17 at Champions Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio.
