The Wayne State University volleyball team has been acknowledged by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for its academic achievements during the 2023 season. The team received the AVCA Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT, which recognizes collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.
Wayne State's volleyball program achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.57 over the past academic year. This marks the ninth consecutive year that Wayne State has received this honor and the eleventh time in the last twelve years.
This year saw a record number of volleyball programs earning the AVCA Team Academic Award, with over 1,400 collegiate and high school teams meeting the GPA requirement for their academic performance during the recent school year.
The AVCA's mission is to promote volleyball through leadership, advocacy, and professional development among coaches. The association comprises more than 9,500 members from various levels of volleyball coaching in the United States, including women's, men's, and beach volleyball.
INTENT is sponsoring this award for the first time. It is a digital platform connecting student-athletes and military special ops veterans with employers seeking candidates. The company aims to guide these individuals toward success in their careers after sports or military service.
