Both Wayne State University swimming and diving teams will host Davenport University this Friday in their first GLIAC dual of the 2024-25 season. The event will take place at 5 p.m. inside the Matthaei Natatorium.

Head coach Sean Peters expressed anticipation for the upcoming meet, stating, "I'm excited to see what we do this Friday with Davenport coming to the Matthaei." He acknowledged the strength of the Panthers, noting that they had several NCAA qualifiers last season and swam very fast last weekend.

The match against Davenport marks the first of four league encounters for Wayne State this season. The Warriors are scheduled to compete against Northern Michigan on November 9, Saginaw Valley State on January 4, and Grand Valley State on January 11.

Apart from an Alumni Meet on November 1, this competition will be Wayne State's only event until a tri-meet with Northern Michigan and Findlay on November 9 at Matthaei. Historically, Wayne State has performed well against Davenport in previous meets:

- October 22, 2021: Wayne State 127, Davenport 104

- October 21, 2022: Wayne State 122, Davenport 100

- October 27, 2023: Wayne State 132, Davenport 100

Davenport's swimming and diving program is led by Justin Vasquez, who has been head coach since its inception. The Panther women began competing in fall of 2018 followed by the men two years later. Areal Tolsma serves as Vasquez's top assistant in charge of diving for her fourth season at Davenport.
