Wayne State women's tennis competes at ITA Cup with mixed results

The Wayne State University women's tennis team participated in the ITA Cup at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. On the second day of competition, two doubles pairs from Wayne State took part and concluded with a combined record of 2-2.

In the quarterfinals, Malak Arafat from Alexandria, Egypt, and Martyna Szpakowska from Gdansk, Poland, faced Avery Durham and Eva Schwartz from Angelo State. Despite a strong effort, Arafat and Szpakowska were defeated in a close match.

Another pair representing Wayne State was Anais Ruyssen from Nantes, France, and Dea Gorgidze from Tbilisi, Georgia. They competed against Karen Kondo and Selina Wu from Saint Marys in a consolation quarterfinal match. Ruyssen and Gorgidze emerged victorious after an intense three-set battle.

The results for the second day of the tournament are as follows:

- Avery Durham and Eva Schwartz (Angelo State) defeated Malak Arafat and Martyna Szpakowska 6-4, 1-6, 11-9.

- Anais Ruyssen and Dea Gorgidze defeated Karen Kondo and Selina Wu (Saint Marys) 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.

The Wayne State University women's tennis team is set to compete again on Saturday, October 19th when they host their WSU Doubles Invitational.
