Wayne State falls short against ranked Davenport in Caledonia

Wayne State University's football team faced a challenging match against Davenport University, resulting in a 43-26 defeat. The game took place at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex, with Wayne State initially leading 19-12 at halftime. However, Davenport outscored them 31-7 in the second half.

In the first quarter, Wayne State's Jeremiah Sterling, Jr. scored a one-yard touchdown after an extensive drive. Davenport responded with a defensive conversion and a field goal by Brandon Gielow.

The second quarter saw Griffin Milovanski extend Wayne State's lead with two field goals. A long pass from D'Wan Mathis to Preston Smith evened the score for Davenport before Wayne State regained the lead through a 72-yard pass from Champion Edwards to Manny Harris.

Davenport tied the game again in the third quarter following an interception and then took the lead after blocking a punt. Mike O'Horo connected twice with Kendall Williams for touchdowns.

In the fourth quarter, John Rayba caught a touchdown pass for Wayne State, narrowing their deficit to three points. However, Myren Harris extended Davenport's lead with two rushing touchdowns.

Davenport led significantly in total offense and rushing yards while Wayne State struggled on third downs.

Key players included Champion Edwards for Wayne State with 93 rushing yards and Myren Harris for Davenport with 156 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Wayne State will host Saginaw Valley State University next Saturday for their Homecoming/Hall of Fame contest at Tom Adams Field.
