The Wayne State University women's fencing team achieved three victories during the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) Championships held at French Field House in Columbus, Ohio. On Saturday, WSU secured wins against Lawrence (14-13), Cleveland State (21-5 plus one double forfeit), and Detroit Mercy (22-5), concluding the day with a 3-3 record.
The Warriors faced defeats from Northwestern (23-4), Denison (15-12), and Ohio State (21-6). The event was hosted by Ohio State, which finished second overall behind Northwestern. The two-day championship included team competitions on Saturday and individual events on Sunday.
In the epee category, freshman Reka Galfalvy from Budapest led with 13 bout victories and only three losses. Fellow freshman Salma Abdrabou from Mohandessin followed closely with 12 wins to four losses. Senior Vika Shevchenko from Troy achieved an even 8-8 record. Together, they earned a combined score of 39-15, securing second place in this category.
For foil results, sophomore Ludovica Mancini from Rome stood out with a 7-4 record. Freshman Noreen Bongado from Farmington Hills recorded a single victory against Denison's Alaina Cabalu, while Timi Terjek from Solymar participated in the last three rounds achieving a 2-7 score. Graduate student Halah Keramane saw limited action but managed a 1-2 record. Wayne State placed third in this category with an overall score of 32-22.
In sabre results, senior Reagan Byars from Warren and sophomore Mehreen Siddiqui from Canton competed throughout all six rounds. Byars had a 2-15 record while Siddiqui ended with a 3-14 score, including success against UDM opponents. Contributions also came from Terjek and Keramane; Terjek scored 1-2 against Detroit Mercy while Keramane went winless against Northwestern.
Overall scores were: Lawrence: 14-13; Cleveland State: 21-5; Detroit Mercy: 22-5; Northwestern: 4-23; Denison: 12-15; Ohio State: 6-21.
Final standings placed Northwestern first for the women's team competition followed by Ohio State and Denison. In women's foil, Ohio State took first place ahead of Northwestern and Wayne State in third. For women's epee, Northwestern claimed first position with Wayne State second and Ohio State third. In women's sabre, Northwestern led again followed by Ohio State and Denison.
