Wayne State sends eight athletes to NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships

Six swimmers and two divers from Wayne State University's women's swimming and diving team have qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division 2 Swimming and Diving National Championships. The event will take place at the SPIRE Institute Aquatics Center in Geneva, Ohio, from March 12 to 15.

The swimmers selected include sophomore Elly Belmore, junior Sabine Branford, graduate student Jordan Fox, senior Barbara Munoz, senior Megan Sieloff, and junior Alli Vassilakos. Their seedings vary across different events. For instance, Belmore is seeded 17th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.54, while Fox holds the third seed in both the 200 Free (1:48.33) and the 500 Free (4:50.53).

Divers Mikaela Senkus and Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru will compete in the NCAA Diving prequalifications on March 12. Each diver will perform six dives on each board with hopes of finishing among the top eleven to qualify for the championships.

Wayne State's relay teams will also participate in several events. The team’s members include Evie Dice and Hannah Gurecki as relay swimmers. The Warriors' relays are ranked as follows: the 200 Medley quartet is ranked 17th with a time of 1:42.79; the 400 Free Relay is ranked 11th at 3:24.16; and the 800 Free Relay is ranked fifth at 7:21.18.

In comparison to other schools, Drury University leads with thirteen swimmers qualifying for nationals, followed by Colorado Mesa University, Nova Southeastern University, UIndy, Tampa University each with eleven qualifiers.
