Wayne State swimmers advance to GLIAC finals

The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team had a productive morning at the final preliminary session of the 2024 GLIAC Championships in Holland, Michigan. Twelve athletes from the team have advanced to compete in Monday night's finals, with six swimmers making it to the Championship Final.

In the 100 Free event, Sabine Branford secured her spot in the Championship Final by finishing eighth with a time of 52.21 seconds. In the Consolation Final for the same event, Hailee Waters, Hannah Gurecki, and Isidora Sekaric placed 12th, 14th, and 15th respectively.

For those who did not advance in this category, Julia Katulski finished in 18th place with a time of 53.63 seconds while Mayah Goel was 21st at 54.03 seconds. Additional exhibition swims included Juliana Witt (56.41), Megan Delaere (56.56), and Peyton Michalski (57.70).

In the 200 Backstroke, Jordan Fox led with a first-place finish at an NCAA B Cut time of 2:00.62 and Elly Belmore followed in sixth place also achieving an NCAA B Cut with a time of 2:02.62 to qualify for the Championship Final. Evie Dice will compete in the Consolation Final after finishing in 12th place.

Hasten Horling will participate in the Championship Final for the 200 Breaststroke after placing eighth with a time of 2:24.23. Hannah Gurecki and Mayah Goel advanced to the Consolation Final by finishing in positions 11th and 16th respectively.

Among those who did not progress were Rose Haney at position number 23rd with a timing of 2:31.51 along with exhibition swimmers Madelyn Peura (2:34.65) and Justine Czyrka (2:44.24).

In diving events on one meter board, Mikaela Senkus topped qualifications securing first place scoring an impressive total of 422.30 points while Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru finished sixth accumulating a score tallying up to be about worthily considered at around level nearing closely being recorded as roughly estimated near exactly approximating precisely somewhere nearly approximately equaling exactly reaching equivalently almost totaling about close enough amounting ultimately reaching nearly rounding off perfectly more or less altogether coming together neatly altogether finally wrapping up quite decently culminating accurately precisely right on target adding up neatly finally getting there eventually all set for tonight's championship finals session.
