Four athletes from Wayne State University's women's basketball team have been honored with Academic All-District recognition by the College Sports Communicators. The announcement was made earlier today.

The recognized players include redshirt senior guards Becca Fugate and Kate McArthur, along with juniors Alyssa Leister and Shea Tripp. Their academic achievements were highlighted alongside their contributions on the court.

Becca Fugate, set to graduate with a degree in Nursing, maintains a 3.62 GPA over 113 credits at Wayne State University (WSU). She scored 248 points this season and played 808 minutes, concluding her college career with 1,131 points and setting a WSU record for career games played at 131.

Kate McArthur holds a 3.75 GPA through 109 credits and will graduate with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science. After transferring from Central Michigan, she has participated in 97 games for the Warriors, scoring 454 points and achieving significant assists and steals records.

Alyssa Leister is majoring in Management with a GPA of 3.83 after completing 75 hours of coursework. In her collegiate career spanning 78 games, she has accumulated notable statistics across various offensive categories.

Shea Tripp stands out as the only Warrior advancing to the Academic All-American ballot while also earning First Team All-GLIAC honors for the season. Leading her team in multiple statistical categories, Tripp has started most of her games during her three years at WSU.

According to the College Sports Communicators' release: "The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA."

Honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Finalists will be voted on by CSC members before announcing first-, second-, and third-team honorees on April 16, 2024.

The programs are financially supported by respective governance structures within NCAA Divisions II and III as well as NAIA to assist CSC in managing awards fulfillment aspects for these programs.
