Wayne State University's Daniel Grey has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the third time in 2024. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Grey, a senior from Wiesbaden, Germany, achieved a 2-0 record in both singles and doubles matches last week. His performances included contests against Tiffin University, ranked No. 38, and an exhibition match against Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Lima, Ohio. CWRU is currently ranked sixth at the Division III level.

The standout moment for Grey came during Wayne State's 4-0 victory over Tiffin on March 26. Ranked 11th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), Grey defeated Ruben Fonga, who is ranked third nationally, in straight sets with scores of 6-3 and 6-4. This marked his fourth win of the year against a top-10 nationally ranked opponent.

In doubles play, Grey partnered with Cedric Drenth from Sulzbach, Germany, to secure a win over Michael Gurtner and Matthew Telford, who are ranked No. 22 in doubles nationally. They won with a score of 7-5.

During the match against CWRU's Spartans at Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center, Grey claimed victory over Ajay Mahenthiran, Division III's sixth-best singles player, with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. He also teamed up with Dom Spicer from London, England, to defeat Sahil Dayal and Anmay Devaraj in doubles with a score of 6-4.

Grey competed at the first flight position in both singles and doubles categories. With his win over Tiffin, he now holds ten victories at the No. 1 singles spot this season. This recognition marks the fifth time Grey has received Player of the Week honors during his collegiate career.

Wayne State played three matches since last Tuesday; however, only their victory against Tiffin counted towards their overall standings. The two matches held in Lima—against Northwestern Ohio (a loss of 6-1) and CWRU (a loss of 4-3)—did not affect their season record. Wayne State University's official record stands at eight wins and eight losses as they begin GLIAC action at home against Lake Superior State on April 5 and Michigan Tech on April 6.
