The Wayne State University men's golf team commenced their journey at the 2024 NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional with a score of 288. This effort places them in the 15th position after the first day of competition at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Leading the field are Missouri S&T and Harding, both tied for first place with opening round scores of 276. Grand Valley State follows closely with a score of 277, while Ferris State posted a score of 279. Henderson State completes the top five with an even par score of 280. The teams finishing in the top five positions after three rounds will secure spots in the NCAA Finals.
Senior Ian Smith from Canton, Michigan led Wayne State with an impressive three-under-par round of 67, placing him tied for fifth individually. Redshirt senior Josh DiCarlo from Amherstburg, Ontario carded a round of 73 and stands tied for 57th place. Meanwhile, senior Mat Hawryluk from Chatham, Ontario and redshirt sophomore Adam Burghardt from New Baltimore, Michigan each shot a round of 74.
Junior Max Leppelmeier from Wauseon, Ohio recorded an opening round score of 75 and is currently tied for 81st place.
The Wayne State Warriors are scheduled to continue their play on Friday at 9:30 a.m. Central Time and will tee off again at an undetermined time on Saturday.
