Three members of the Wayne State University men's tennis team have been honored with Academic All-District recognition by the College Sport Communicators (CSC) for the 2023-24 season. The athletes recognized are junior Cedric Drenth from Sulzbach, Germany, senior Daniel Grey from Wiesbaden, Germany, and senior Emil Mikkelsen from Soenderborg, Denmark.
Cedric Drenth was previously named the 2023 CSC Men's Tennis Division 2 National Academic All-American of the Year. This season, he has achieved a 24-4 singles record and is ranked No. 14 nationally. Alongside his doubles partner Daniel Grey, they hold a 30-9 overall record and are ranked as the top doubles team in Division 2. Drenth was also awarded the Deans' Award from the Mike Ilitch School of Business for having the highest cumulative GPA among student-athletes in that college. He maintains a perfect 4.00 GPA in Finance.
Daniel Grey was named the 2024 GLIAC Player of the Year and selected First Team All-GLIAC in both singles and doubles this spring. He holds a national ranking of fifth in singles and first in doubles with Drenth. His singles record stands at 21-7, primarily playing at No. 1 singles position. Grey has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.92 in Neuroscience Honors.
Emil Mikkelsen is finishing his second season with Wayne State University with a singles record of 12-8 at primarily No. 6 flight and an overall doubles mark of 11-11 this year with various partners. Mikkelsen maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.94 in Sport Management.
The Wayne State University men's tennis program recently began their NCAA Tournament journey with a victory over Tiffin and is currently competing against Grand Valley State.
