The Wayne State University men's golf team is set to host the University of Michigan-Dearborn in an event known as the Motor City Shakedown. This competition will take place at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, with individual scores being recorded for both the Warriors and Wolverines rather than team totals. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, with both teams playing 18 holes.

Head coach Mike Horn commented on the upcoming event, saying, "This is a chance for our entire roster to get to play on our home course." He expressed gratitude towards UM-Dearborn for allowing Wayne State to host and added, "I'm looking forward to a fun day of golf for both squads. We will be getting ready for Indianapolis' Ken Partridge Invitational at Purgatory Golf Club next weekend."

Previously, Wayne State and UM-Dearborn competed against each other in the Dual in Dearborn on October 28, 2022, also held at TPC Michigan. During that match, the Warriors emerged victorious over the Wolverines with a score of 278 to 339. Max Leppelmeier from Wauseon, Ohio / Pettisville was Wayne State's top performer that day, finishing first with an individual score of 67 (-5).

In terms of NCAA regional rankings released recently on Saturday, Wayne State has been ranked second in the Midwest Region behind Grand Valley State. The NCAA will select ten teams from each region for postseason play in one of four "super regionals," pairing regions together into a field of twenty teams. From this grouping, five teams from the Midwest Region/Central Region Super Regional will progress to the NCAA Championships along with the top two individuals not affiliated with advancing teams. The Midwest Region is paired with the Central Region and their combined competition will take place at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma from May 9-11. The NCAA Championships are scheduled for May 21-25 at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Florida. The field announcement is expected on Friday, April 26 via an NCAA.com release.
