Wayne State University's football team faced another setback in their season, losing to Saginaw Valley State University with a score of 37-10 during the Homecoming game. The defeat marked Wayne State's eighth consecutive loss, leaving them winless for the season so far.
The game took place on the 56th anniversary of the first match at Wayne State's Football Stadium. The Warriors initially trailed by just three points with less than 90 seconds left in the first half. However, Saginaw Valley managed to score ten points quickly, creating a lead they maintained throughout the rest of the game.
In the first quarter, Wayne State had an early drive but ended up punting. Saginaw Valley responded with a touchdown from Terrence Brown Jr., though their extra point attempt was blocked by Anthony Walk Jr., keeping the score at 6-0.
The second quarter saw both teams exchanging punts until Wayne State closed in on Saginaw Valley's lead with a field goal by Griffin Milovanski. A blocked punt gave Saginaw Valley favorable field position, leading to another touchdown and a field goal before halftime.
After halftime, Saginaw Valley extended their lead further with a 75-yard drive resulting in a touchdown pass from Mason McKenzie to Joseph Walker. As both teams struggled offensively for much of the third quarter, Saginaw Valley continued to dominate into the fourth quarter with another long touchdown run by Brown.
Wayne State managed to find some success late in the game with an eight-play scoring drive ending in JoShawn Lewis catching an eight-yard pass for a touchdown. However, Saginaw Valley sealed their victory with one more touchdown run by Austin Bills.
Statistically, Saginaw Valley dominated with significant advantages in total offense and rushing yards. Key performances included Michael Jamerson III's 90 rushing yards and McKenzie's efficient passing.
Looking ahead, Wayne State is set to face Grand Valley State University on November 2nd for their final road game of the season.
