Wayne State University's volleyball team is set to resume its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play at home this week. The Warriors, who hold an 8-10 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the GLIAC, will face Michigan Tech on Friday at 7 p.m. and Northern Michigan on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both matches are significant as Wayne State and Michigan Tech are tied for fourth place in the conference standings, while Northern Michigan is tied for second.
Head coach Tim Koth expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming games, stating, "These are important matches for the Warriors this weekend, but we are looking forward to playing two very good teams on Alumni Night and Homecoming! Hope to see Warrior nation out in full force for all the activities this weekend."
In their last outing at the Midwest Regional Crossover in Hammond, Indiana, Wayne State faced a mixed bag of results. They lost to No. 11 Missouri-St. Louis but managed a victory against Ashland before falling to Walsh.
Michigan Tech enters the match with an 11-7 overall record and has been successful recently with four wins in their last five GLIAC matches. Coached by Matt Jennings, who has led them to multiple NCAA tournament appearances, the Huskies rank high nationally in hitting efficiency.
Northern Michigan boasts a strong recent performance with an overall record of 13-5 and impressive statistics across several players under coach Mike Lozier's guidance.
The outcomes of these matches could significantly impact Wayne State's standing within the GLIAC as they compete against formidable opponents.
