The Wayne State University men's basketball team is set to play its first home game of the 2024-25 season against Findlay on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Warriors, who currently have an overall record of 0-2, will host this match at the WSU Fieldhouse, marking the beginning of a stretch where they will play six out of eight games at home.

Wayne State began their season with two road games against GLVC opponents Lincoln (Mo.) and Indianapolis. Despite leading in both matches during the second half, they ended up losing narrowly by scores of 55-52 and after having a one-point lead with over two minutes left in the latter.

Findlay enters this matchup undefeated with a 3-0 record. Their victories were secured at home against Quincy, Truman, and Northwestern Ohio. The Oilers' current streak is their best start since the 2020-21 season.

Historically, Findlay leads Wayne State in their all-time series with a record of 30 wins to 17 losses. This upcoming game marks their first encounter since the 2016-17 season when both teams were part of the GLIAC before Findlay moved to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) in July 2017.

The Oilers are led by head coach Charlie Ernst, who has been with them for fourteen years. His tenure includes achievements such as two Sweet 16 appearances and three G-MAC championships. This season sees six players averaging double figures in scoring per game.

In their last outing against Indianapolis, Wayne State had a promising start but ultimately could not maintain their lead. The Greyhounds overcame an early deficit to secure victory after several lead changes in the final minutes.

Wayne State was predicted to finish fifth out of eleven schools according to the GLIAC Preseason Poll. Rob Lee Jr., recognized as Freshman of the Year last season, earned a spot on the Preseason All-GLIAC Second Team.

Broadcasts for all regular-season games will be available on WDTK - The Patriot (1400 AM / 101.5 FM), except for two non-Division II games scheduled for December. Kevin Brechmacher will return as commentator for his ninth year alongside former players Chuck Key, Marcus Moore, or Andy Dold during home games broadcasts.
