Wayne State University's volleyball team faced a challenging match against Grand Valley State, ranked No. 12, on Thursday night in Allendale, Michigan. Despite taking an early lead by winning the first two sets, Wayne State was unable to maintain their advantage and lost the next three sets, resulting in a 3-2 defeat.
The match scores were (-15, -22, 16-25, 19-25, 13-15), marking Wayne State's sixth loss in five-set matches this season. In contrast, Grand Valley State maintained an undefeated record of 3-0 in such encounters this fall.
Wayne State achieved a hitting percentage of .253 with 64 kills and 21 errors from 170 total attacks. Grand Valley State responded with a .284 hitting percentage on 67 kills and only 19 errors from 169 swings. The Warriors' best performance came in the second set with a .432 hitting percentage (20-1-44), while the Lakers excelled in the fifth set at .458 (13-2-24).
Kayla Dulgar contributed significantly with her eighth double-double of the year by recording 55 assists and ten digs. Molly Miller also secured a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs. Kayla Giroux led the match with a high of 19 kills and only three errors on 49 attempts. Ella Uganski added a season-high of twelve kills.
The Warriors showed strong defensive skills by achieving ten total blocks during the match. Kendyl Andrews led her team defensively with twenty digs.
Wayne State will conclude its regular season on Friday against Roosevelt University in Chicago at 7 p.m. Eastern time.
