DETROIT -- The 48th annual Wayne State University Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at The Eastern in Detroit. This event celebrated the achievements of notable athletes, with speeches and presentations shared for each inductee.
In this series, Karrington Seals-Yeargin is highlighted as an inductee. Seals-Yeargin was a prominent track athlete during her time at Wayne State University from 2015 to 2018. She earned eight track letters and achieved six-time All-American hurdler status along with two-time Academic All-American honors.
Seals made history in 2016 by becoming the first women's indoor track All-American in the program's history with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships in the 60m hurdles. Her performance also earned her All-GLIAC and All-Region recognition following a runner-up finish at the GLIAC Championships. In that spring season, she secured Second Team All-America honors by placing tenth in the 100m hurdles at the NCAA Championships and won the GLIAC title in that event.
The subsequent year saw Seals achieve a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships, marking it as the highest placement by any Warrior athlete in school history for that event. As a GLIAC Champion in the 60m indoor hurdles, she was again named All-Region. Her outdoor season included a twelfth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for which she received Second Team All-America recognition.
In her senior year, Seals received a GLIAC Commissioner's Award for both academic and athletic excellence. She repeated as a Second Team All-American after finishing tenth at the NCAA Indoor Championships and claimed another GLIAC title while earning further All-Region accolades. She concluded her collegiate career with First Team All-America honors after securing sixth place in the 100m hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championship.
Even years after graduation, Seals holds records for top times in both indoor (60m hurdles) and outdoor (100m hurdles) events within Wayne State's athletics history.
Academically distinguished as well, Seals was a Biological Sciences Honors major who consistently appeared on Academic Honor Rolls throughout her college tenure. She was named WSU Female Student-Athlete of the Year for 2017-18 due to her exemplary performance both on and off track.
