Wayne State University has achieved a significant academic milestone by securing eight Academic All-District honors, as announced by the College Sports Communicators organization. This achievement places Wayne State at the top of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) alongside Davenport and Ferris State, who also received eight honors each.
The university also saw five of its student-athletes advance to the Academic All-American ballot, more than any other school in the conference. The students honored from Wayne State include graduate students Griffin Milovanski, Jeremy Taras, and Carl Ware; redshirt seniors Tyler Schompert and Charles Wesley; seniors John Rayba and Aidan Tweedy; and redshirt sophomore Quincy Salter.
Griffin Milovanski is currently pursuing an MBA after completing his bachelor's degree in Management. He has been recognized multiple times on both the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Coach's Honor Roll. On the field, he earned All-GLIAC recognition for three consecutive years.
Jeremy Taras is also pursuing an MBA with a background in Management. He holds a notable punting average in program history and has been acknowledged for his academic achievements on several occasions.
Carl Ware transferred to Wayne State in 2023 and is working towards an MBA after obtaining a bachelor's degree in Marketing. He was an Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection last year due to his impressive performance in forced fumbles.
Tyler Schompert majors in Construction Management within the College of Engineering. His academic record includes several appearances on honor rolls, and he played significant roles on the field during his college career.
Charles Wesley studies Exercise and Sport Science while maintaining a strong academic record. His contributions to the team have earned him Honorable Mention All-GLIAC recognition twice.
John Rayba majors in Finance and has consistently excelled academically while leading his team with touchdown receptions as a tight end last season.
Aidan Tweedy, another Finance major, has been recognized for both his academic excellence and consistent performance on the field over recent seasons.
Quincy Salter is studying Physical Therapy with outstanding grades each semester while actively participating as a linebacker during games.
The five student-athletes advancing to the national Academic All-America ballot are Griffin Milovanski, John Rayba, Jeremy Taras, Carl Ware, and Charles Wesley. Results will be announced on January 21, 2025.
