Wayne State women’s basketball defeats Purdue Northwest in high-scoring home game

Wayne State University's women's basketball team secured a decisive victory over Purdue University Northwest with a final score of 98-54. This home win marked the highest points scored by the Warriors since their November 2021 game against Central State University.

The match began with Purdue Northwest's Nessa Walsh scoring first, but Wayne State quickly responded. Annabel Ayrault contributed significantly, giving the Warriors an early lead. A three-pointer from Alyssa Leister initiated a 10-0 run for Wayne State, although Purdue managed to halt it briefly.

In the second quarter, Purdue again opened the scoring, but Wayne State maintained their lead. Ayrault continued her strong performance, sparking another 10-0 run. By halftime, Wayne State was ahead 49-27.

The third quarter saw Wayne State extend their advantage further with contributions from multiple players. They ended this period with a substantial lead of 77-43.

In the final quarter, both teams scored equally from the field, but Wayne State excelled at free throws, securing their victory.

Wayne State displayed impressive shooting accuracy and rebounding strength throughout the game. The Warriors converted over half of their shots and dominated in rebounds. Annabel Ayrault led her team with a career-high 16 points in her first start of the season.

For Purdue Northwest, Akyia Baker led with 14 points. Despite their efforts, they struggled to match Wayne State's efficiency on offense and defense.

Wayne State will now prepare for upcoming away games against Northern Michigan University and Michigan Tech University.
