The Wayne State University women's basketball team experienced a setback with a 76-67 loss against Michigan Tech University. The game took place on Saturday afternoon, marking both teams' current standings in the GLIAC at 4-4.
In the first quarter, Wayne State had a slow start, scoring only four points in the initial minutes. Michigan Tech ended the quarter on a strong note, leading 14-10. The second quarter saw Michigan Tech extending their lead to double digits after a series of successful plays, ending the half with a 39-25 advantage over Wayne State.
Wayne State showed resilience in the third quarter by narrowing the gap to two points. Taylor Thompson tied the game at 48-48 with a jumper, but Michigan Tech closed out the period ahead at 53-48. In the final quarter, despite efforts from Wayne State's Shea Tripp and Thompson, Michigan Tech maintained their lead and secured victory.
Team statistics revealed that Wayne State shot 39 percent from the floor compared to Michigan Tech's 50 percent. The Huskies also held an edge in rebounding and points in the paint.
Taylor Thompson led Wayne State with 15 points while Shea Tripp contributed significantly with nine rebounds. For Michigan Tech, Kendall Stanfest scored a game-high of 16 points.
Wayne State will play its next two games at home against Saginaw Valley State and GLIAC newcomer Roosevelt.
