The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team faced off against Oakland University, a Division I team from the Horizon League, in a meet held on Saturday afternoon. Despite strong performances, Wayne State fell short with a score of 130-106.
Head coach Sean Peters commented on the competition, stating, "Oakland was certainly a formidable opponent, but we certainly had some nice races. I was impressed with our 1650 races and we had some strong performances all around, both in swimming and diving. With more than four weeks before the conference meet, and with our final meet of the regular season next Saturday, we are looking forward to fine-tuning ourselves and getting ready for our conference championships."
Wayne State secured six victories during the meet. William Debroux won the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:51.93. Gabriel Arias triumphed in the 200 IM clocking in at 1:53.37. Max Wasiniak excelled in three-meter diving with a score of 304.28. Olin Charnstrom took first place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.46, while Joey Dombkowski won the 100 breaststroke at 59.26. The team also clinched victory in the 200 freestyle relay with Tomas Osorio, Leland Curanovic, Trevor Jones, and Lorenzo Tassinari completing it in 1:25.31.
