Rob Lee, Jr. of Wayne State University's men's basketball team has been recognized as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. The announcement was made by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Lee, Jr., hailing from Flint, Michigan and a student at Beecher, delivered impressive performances last week. He averaged 29.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game over two contests. His shooting statistics were notable with a 54.5 percent success rate from the floor (18-of-33), 70 percent from three-point range (7-of-10), and an outstanding 94.1 percent from the free throw line (16-of-17).
On Thursday night against Northern Michigan, Lee, Jr. scored 40 points, becoming only the fourth player in Wayne State's program history to achieve this feat in a single game since 2006. During that game, he shot 12-of-18 from the field, made six out of eight three-pointers, and converted all ten free throw attempts. He joined Marcus Tomashek of Michigan Tech as one of only two players in the league to score 40 points in a game this season.
In another strong performance on Saturday afternoon against Michigan Tech, Lee, Jr. led his team with 19 points.
Wayne State will host Saginaw Valley State this Thursday evening at their home venue inside the Fieldhouse with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
