The Wayne State University men's fencing team achieved four victories at the DeCicco Duals, held at the Castellan Family Fencing Center and hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The team secured wins against Florida (20-7), Detroit Mercy (19-6 with two double forfeits), Northwestern (17-10), and Cleveland State (16-11). However, they faced defeats from Notre Dame (22-5), Lawrence (14-13), and Georgia Tech (20-7).
In the sabre category, Zeyad Nofal from Cairo, Egypt, excelled with 15 wins and only one loss. He had perfect 3-0 performances against Florida, Northwestern, Lawrence, and Cleveland State. Brendan Goeddeke from Sterling Heights, Michigan, concluded with a 9-9 record, including notable wins against Northwestern.
The foil category saw participation from six athletes. Sam Gneuhs from Mason, Ohio, led with seven wins and three losses. Bobbie Hirsch ended with a 4-6 record while Carlos Santos compiled a 9-5 record. Jakub Oronowicz finished with six wins out of ten bouts. Ethan Leung had a 4-5 record and Mitchell Gatrell managed one win against Notre Dame.
In epee competition, Bryce Heim from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin led the Warriors with a 13-7 record. Shuayb Dinkins started strong but ended with a 9-11 overall record. Lance Miller secured six bout wins during the event.
Wayne State's men's fencing team will next participate in the Schiller Duals hosted by Northwestern.
