The Wayne State University women's track and field team secured second place at the Fifth Annual W-C-W triangular meet hosted by Saginaw Valley State University. Northern Michigan took first place with 133 points, narrowly beating Wayne State's 120.5 points, while the host Cardinals finished third with 85.5 points.

Several athletes from Wayne State achieved notable victories in their events. Junior Hanne Bastiaansen set a school record in the 300m dash. Senior Emily Gordon triumphed in the 400m dash, graduate student Taylor Hopkins won the 3K race, and junior Aubrey Migoski claimed victory in the 5K event. The relay team consisting of Bastiaansen, junior Avery Wilson, sophomore Rachel Overgaard, and junior Elyse Miller also set a new school record in the 4x300m relay with a time of 2:42.04. Freshman Olivia Findlay was successful in the high jump.

Coach Lofdahl commented on the event saying, "This meet is always a highlight on our schedule, and the competition and camaraderie between the three programs is great." He praised several athletes for their performances: "Hanne Bastiaansen had a spectacular meet with two wins and new school records. Emily Gordon's win in the 400 was a shocker and a big breakthrough for her." He acknowledged Northern Michigan's effort stating, "We ultimately came up short of the victory, and credit to Northern Michigan for a great effort today."

Other notable performances included Nicole Warren placing third in long jump and second in triple jump, while freshman Ania Toboy finished fifth in shot put.

Wayne State will next compete at Grand Valley State University's Big Meet scheduled for February 14th and 15th.
