Wayne State women's basketball gears up for road trip after recent home loss

The Wayne State University women's basketball team is set to embark on a four-game road trip, beginning with a matchup against Saginaw Valley State on Thursday. The team will then face Roosevelt on Monday, February 17. This follows a recent defeat at home against Northern Michigan, which ended the Warriors' five-game winning streak.

In terms of series history, Saginaw Valley State holds a narrow lead over Wayne State with an all-time record of 45-40. However, Wayne State recently claimed victory in their last encounter earlier this year. As for their upcoming game against Roosevelt, Wayne State currently leads the series 1-0.

Saginaw Valley State enters the contest with a 12-10 overall record and has shown strength in conference play with a 6-8 mark. Megan McCalla leads the Cardinals in scoring with an average of 16.6 points per game. Head coach Jenny Pruett has been guiding the team since her appointment and has accumulated an overall record of 76-81.

Roosevelt, coached by Deon Thomas, holds an 8-12 overall record as they prepare to host Saginaw Valley before facing Wayne State. Luka Malinka is the top scorer for Roosevelt, averaging 15.1 points per game.

Wayne State's strength of schedule ranks as the second toughest in the Midwest Region and nationally ranks them among the top teams in terms of competitive matchups.

Taylor Thompson from Wayne State stands out nationally for offensive rebounds, ranking 33rd with an average of 3.4 per game. Shea Tripp also garners national attention for career steals.

Sophomore guard McKenna Ferguson delivered strong performances recently, including leading scores and crucial plays that contributed to victories and close contests.

Last week's games saw Wayne State split results: securing a win against Michigan Tech but falling short against Northern Michigan. In both matches, standout performances were noted from players like McKenna Ferguson and Taylor Thompson who excelled both offensively and defensively.
