Wayne State men's tennis secures dual wins over CWRU and Northwestern Ohio

The Wayne State University men's tennis team secured two victories on Friday, extending their unbeaten run to 3-0. The team defeated Case Western Reserve University with a score of 6-1 and later triumphed over the University of Northwestern Ohio, winning 4-3.

In the match against Case Western Reserve, the Warriors won two out of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Cedric Drenth and George Day achieved a 6-3 victory in the No. 1 position, while Sam Knowles and Tom Wasner won their match 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Despite Max Faniel and Benjamin Hill's efforts in the No. 3 position, they fell short with a score of 6-4.

During singles play against Case Western Reserve, Drenth led with a decisive win in the No. 1 position by defeating Ajay Mahenthiran without trailing throughout his sets. Sam Knowles also claimed victory after overcoming Konrad Kwiatkowski in straight sets. George Day emerged victorious from a closely contested first set before claiming his match against George Kosseifi.

Head Coach Bryan Morrow expressed satisfaction with his team's performance against Case Western Reserve: "Very complete match in which we played well."

Against Northwestern Ohio, Wayne State earned all three doubles matches for an early advantage. Drenth and Day maintained their strong form with another win in the top doubles spot, while Knowles and Wasner managed to clinch their match after intense competition.

George Day again showcased his skills during singles play by securing victory at No.1 singles position against Mete Koseoglu from Northwestern Ohio.

Coach Morrow commented on this second encounter: "Played solid in doubles... I am very proud of this team; we are getting better every day."

Looking ahead to Sunday’s schedule, Wayne State is set to face Toledo University at UT Varsity Tennis Courts starting at 1:00 PM.
