Wayne State falls to Roosevelt in tightly contested basketball matchup

In a closely contested match on Monday night, Wayne State University's men's basketball team was narrowly defeated by Roosevelt University with a final score of 90-83. The game, held at the Lakers' Goodman Center in Chicago, featured numerous ties and lead changes throughout.

The first half ended in a 36-36 tie after both teams exchanged leads multiple times. Wayne State outperformed Roosevelt in shooting accuracy during this period, achieving a 48.4 percent success rate compared to Roosevelt's 43.3 percent. However, Roosevelt capitalized on nine assists against just two turnovers, while Wayne State recorded 11 assists but also six turnovers.

The second half continued the pattern of back-and-forth play. Notably, Rob Lee Jr.'s three-point play and Carlos Paul III's jumper gave Wayne State a brief five-point lead at 49-44. Despite several deadlocks, including at 71-71 and 73-73, Roosevelt eventually pulled ahead for good following a decisive scoring run.

Roosevelt's shooting efficiency improved in the second half as they hit an even 50 percent from the field and were perfect from the free throw line during critical moments. The Lakers also outperformed Wayne State in scoring off turnovers and fast-break points.

Wayne State had notable performances from Harris (21 points), Lee Jr. (20 points), and Paul III (13 points). Ray Williams Jr. led in rebounds with eight, while Tamario Adley contributed seven assists along with four steals.

For Roosevelt, Forte Prater led all scorers with 31 points, supported by Fred Robinson IV with 22 points and Enari Thomas with 15 points.

Wayne State is set to continue its road trip on Thursday against Grand Valley State.
