Wayne State University will host the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) Championships for both men's and women's fencing programs. The event is scheduled to take place at the Matthaei Center over two days, on February 22 and 23.
The competition will include teams from Cleveland State University, Denison University, the University of Detroit Mercy, Lawrence University, The Ohio State University, and Northwestern University.
Reflecting on last year's championships, Wayne State's men's team secured a second-place finish in team competition. They achieved victories against Lawrence (17-10), Cleveland State (14-13), and Detroit Mercy (23-4). Their only defeat was by Ohio State, who claimed the championship with a 21-6 win. Wayne State also earned a second-place finish in the epee weapon and third in foil.
The women's team ended with a 3-3 record last season. They defeated Lawrence (14-13), Cleveland State (21-5), and Detroit Mercy (22-5) but lost to Northwestern (23-4), Denison (15-12), and Ohio State (21-6). The women's team also finished second in epee and third in foil.
The schedule for Wayne State includes matches for men starting at 8:30 AM against Detroit Mercy and continuing throughout the day with other teams. Women’s matches begin at 8:30 AM against Denison, with several rounds scheduled until an award presentation at 6:30 PM.
