Wayne State University's women's basketball team secured a victory against Davenport University, ending their two-game losing streak. The game concluded with a score of 76-49 in favor of Wayne State.
In the first quarter, the teams were tied twice before Wayne State took control with a four-point lead. Davenport briefly led 9-8, but Wayne State regained and maintained the lead after a three-pointer by Alyssa Leister.
During the second quarter, Wayne State extended their lead to 27-13 following seven consecutive points. Ally Shagena's response to a Davenport three-pointer initiated a scoring run that further increased their advantage. By halftime, Wayne State had scored 38 points.
The third quarter saw Wayne State's starters adding 16 points early on, with contributions from Leister and McKenna Ferguson. Although Davenport managed some scoring towards the end of the period, Wayne State maintained a strong lead at 67-38.
In the final quarter, Wayne State kept their margin until late in the game when Davenport's Nevaeh Williams and Laynie Meredith made back-to-back three-pointers.
Statistically, Wayne State shot 41 percent from the field compared to Davenport's 28 percent. They also outperformed in free throws and rebounds, holding significant advantages in both areas.
Shea Tripp led Wayne State with 16 points and nine rebounds. Alyssa Leister added 14 points while McKenna Ferguson contributed ten points. For Davenport, Isabel Lindo, Nevaeh Williams, and Ellie Toney each scored eight points.
Wayne State will finish their regular season with home games against Ferris State and Lake Superior State on February 27th and March 1st respectively.
